Little Green Cooks runs hands-on cooking classes for kids aged two to five years in public venues and individual educational settings across Bristol.
Experienced Registered Nutritionist Ruth Lovelace combines having fun with food and creating tasty, healthy recipes with simple facts about the ingredients used.
I am not currently running classes. Thanks!
I am a Registered Nutritionist based in Bristol with two young children and am passionate about healthy eating from an early age.
I hold a BSc (Hons) Degree in Nutritional Health from the University of Greenwich and a Diploma in Nutritional Therapy from the UK College of Nutrition and Health (BCNH). I gained my licence to practice from BCNH in 2011 and am registered and regulated by The British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT) and hold Professional Indemnity insurance.
I am registered with the Complimentary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC), and hold a Food Hygiene Level 2 – Early Years certificate.
Each class lasts approx. 35 minutes and includes up to 8 children. For public classes, a parent/carer will be attending and siblings are welcome. During the class the children learn about the health benefits of the ingredients used and create a recipe – either uncooked, or prepare it to take home and cook with an adult. At the end of the class each child will be given a copy of the recipe to take home and recreate.
Classes are aimed at toddlers and pre-schoolers, aged between 2 and 5 years.
Public Venues:
As a parent/carer attending a class with their child, be prepared for them to get messy! Old clothes/aprons are advised. All the ingredients are provided for each session.
Educational Settings (e.g. – Pre-schools; Nurseries):
Just a space (with a table and chairs) to create tasty food! The children may get messy during the class, so aprons may be advisable. Washing up facilities are required if more than one class takes place concurrently. I provide all the ingredients and equipment needed.
Allowing children to regularly explore and taste a variety of foods from a young age has shown to reduce the incidence of fussy eating. During the class the children will learn about the foods used in a fun and interactive way and why they are important for our health, helping them to make healthy food choices.
Classes help children experience new foods; identify textures and colours; build upon fine motor skills; and provide increased sensory awareness and stimulation. Classes enable the children to learn about the health benefits of foods in age appropriate language.
Each class takes into account the Early Learning Goals detailed in the EYFS (Early years foundation stage) standards for Pre-school children – specifically in relation to the areas of Communication & Language and Personal, Social and Emotional Development.
No nuts will be used in any recipes. Other foods (such as gluten, dairy or egg) may be used but free from alternatives can be provided as long as this is requested at least 48 hours before the class.
Public classes cost £8.00 per child (with an accompanying adult) per class (or a reduced rate if booking a block of classes).
A reduced sibling rate (£13.00) for children aged 2 and above applies for parents attending with more than one child.
Younger siblings (under 2 years) are welcome in public classes (no additional ingredients provided); for which there is no charge.
Classes in educational settings cost £40 for one class; and £35 per class for two or more classes.
